Happy Wednesday, Cleveland. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night, as Daylight Savings is here yet again. I’m sure I am not the only one looking forward to longer days and warmer weather. As we spring ahead, let’s see what community events are taking place this week.

Showin’ Up Black

This is the last week to catch “Showin’ Up Black” at Cleveland Public Theater. Performances are Thursday, March 6, through Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. each day. This play follows an affluent African American family whose plans for their daughter’s peaceful cotillion are challenged by a Black Lives Matter protest.

Jeanne Madison, playwright and Cleveland Documenter, believes that people of all backgrounds will be able to take something from the performance.

“The play is about the way that Black people move forward,” Madison said. “We have sustained ourselves and looked after each other through humor, love and other avenues. At its core it is a family drama that teaches us to embrace people from all walks of life.”

Cleveland Public Theater is located at 6415 Detroit Ave. Tickets have no set price – attendees are encouraged to pay what they can. For more information or to reserve tickets, click here.

Community Reporter (he/him)
I work to gain the trust of Cleveland residents through direct community engagement and storytelling. My goal is to amplify and celebrate the residents and stakeholders who contribute to the success of city neighborhoods. I’m hoping to erase the negative stigma that has been cast on some neighborhoods throughout the years.
