The morning bite
Early mornings and late afternoons are often the best times to fish. Because fish have eyes that are sensitive to light, they are more prone to roam bodies of water in search of food when the sun is low in the sky, at sunrise and sunset.

On bright sunny days, fish often seek shaded areas or deeper water to avoid the sun. Often, large rocks, trees, brush piles, stumps, tall grass, docks and other objects in the water are great places to fish. In addition, fish seek covered areas because they provide protection from predators. Cover also provides a place from which fish can launch attacks on unsuspecting prey.
On cloudy days, anglers may find fish roaming in waters that are more open. These are areas worth targeting.
Keep in mind that any body of water will hold fish. The ideal location is a place with a healthy environment where the water is clean and has plenty of food, oxygen and shelter. It’s also worth mentioning that, when fishing, people should probe the bottom of the water column and just under the surface. Fish often come to the surface to feed on minnows and other small bait. At other times, fish hug the bottom in areas where vegetation grows.
