Signal Cleveland is digging into affordable housing in 2024. Our Economics Reporter Olivera Perkins will look into the local affordable housing landscape through the experience of renters and homeowners and with an eye toward solutions used elsewhere to create housing options for working class residents and residents who earn lower wages.
This project is inspired, in part, by the questions of Cleveland Documenters’ who cover public meetings. They’ve already met to discuss key questions, filled out surveys and interviewed friends and neighbors across Cleveland neighborhoods and inner ring suburbs.
Residents who have weighed in so far have said that housing should cost no more than 30% of a person’s income to be considered affordable – a seemingly widely held belief that we’ll examine.
We also want to hear from readers –yes, that’s you! If you have about four minutes, fill out the form below and tell us how you define affordable housing and what you’d like to see included in our coverage this year. Feel free to share it with other Greater Clevelanders as well!
