As summer continues to quickly pass us by, the Cleveland community events are not slowing down anytime soon. Let’s look at what free events and activities the city has to offer this weekend:

Family Literacy Day
Join the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and Ashley B. for the First Annual Family Literacy Day on Friday, July 26 from 12 p.m.- 3 p.m. Designed to encourage families to read together, this event will include food, games, music, resources, prizes and more. Three local authors will read their children’s books aloud during storytime. This event will take place at 15500 S. Waterloo Rd. To register for this event or for more information, click here.

Intergenerational lunch
ThirdSpace Action Lab will host an intergenerational lunch on Friday, July 26 at 11:30 a.m. This free event will feature a discussion on what should be done with Glenville’s Gordon Park. Stop by to offer your thoughts on how the space can be best utilized by and for the community. ThirdSpace Action Lab is located at 1464 E. 105th St. Registration is not required. Spoken Word Showdown
Are you a spoken word artist looking to perform and possibly win cash? The Saint Luke’s Foundation and Peel Dem Layers Back present the Spoken Word Showdown on Saturday, July 27 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. The community is welcome to compete in the showdown, which will feature a host, DJ and panel of judges. The top three finishers will earn cash prizes, with the winner taking home $500. This free event is open to all ages to attend, but you must be 16 years or older to compete. The showdown will take place at the Ubuntu Gathering Place, located at 10299 Shaker Blvd. To register as a contestant or for more information, click here.

Summer Fun Fest
Continue to enjoy summer with your kids at Summer Fun Fest, hosted by the Cleveland Children’s Museum on Saturday, July 27 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Kids ages 4-8 are welcome for a day full of fun, including games, face painting, music, snacks, giveaways and free admission to the Children’s Museum. The Children’s Museum is located at 3813 Euclid Ave. The event is free, but tickets are required. To reserve your tickets, click here.
