Residents in Cuyahoga County who receive SNAP benefits and lost food as a result of power outages that followed the Aug. 6 storms now have additional time to file for replacement benefits.
The federal government granted Ohio a waiver extending the time to file until Sept. 5 for people who live in eight Northeast Ohio counties that experienced the severe weather, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.
People can apply to receive replacement SNAP benefits for the amount of food the household lost. You can’t get more replacement benefits than the total you receive in a month. The application asks if you lost power for four hours or more. You may be asked to provide information showing you were in an area affected by the storm. That could be images of news articles or text or other communications from the power company. You could be asked to document the amount of food you lost. Take a photo of your refrigerator or provide a grocery store receipt if you have it.
To apply fill out this form and drop it off to 1641 Payne Ave. or email it to [email protected].
