We know that the folks at the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office mean well, but judging from social media posts we’ve seen, the letter they sent recently about the property tax is still inducing some panic attacks.
Missing your letter? Call the county at (216) 443-7420 ext. 3 to request that a new copy be mailed or sent electronically.
The first meaningful numbers you’re likely to notice — because they’re in bold — are the current market value and proposed 2024 market value of your property. In many cases, especially for property owners in Cleveland and some inner-ring suburbs, that second number is going to be a lot higher than the first. And so you might jump to the conclusion that your taxes are increasing that much too.
Take a deep breath. That’s not how it works.
“What we’re trying to tell everyone is to go to our calculator on our website,” said Lisa Rocco, director of operations in the county’s fiscal office. “The [tax] increase is not proportional to the percentage of increase that you receive as far as your value. So depending on where you fall within your municipality, you may go up, you may stay the same, or you might even go down.”
