Stockyards apartment plan approved

The board approved a plan submitted by Nehemiah Collaborative  to build three buildings, each with four units, on West 56th Street. The collaborative, an alliance of four organizations – Building Hope in The City, Community Service Alliance, Scranton Road Ministries and The Family Ministry Center, was founded in 2016 and has developed other housing on the city’s near West Side.  Board members granted the approval with the condition that landscaping be added on one side of the building and that the backyard be fenced.

Single family homes approved for Father Caruso Drive

Board members approved plans for four, single-family homes on Father Caruso Drive in the city’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. The owner wants to build four single family homes that are each four stories tall with attached garages. The homes would have living space on the four floors. Board members had questions about the space between the garages and pedestrian safety concerns but did approve the project after hearing from the developer and contractor.

City Council will also have to vote on the planned setback, which allows the homes to be closer to the sidewalk than normally allowed. City Planner Adam Davenport said since the property includes Cleveland Land Bank lots, the city will have to assess the value of the property to sell to the developer. That will need to be approved by the city’s Board of Control.
