There is less than one week until Election Day, but many Cuyahoga County voters aren’t waiting until Tuesday.

On Monday, Oct. 28, voters cast 3,700 early in-person ballots. More than 41,000 in-person ballots have been cast since early voting started on Oct. 8.

Statewide, more than 1.8 million Ohioans have voted early ahead of the Nov. 5 election, with state data showing a pronounced shift away from voting by mail, especially outside of the state’s big urban counties.

Usually, around one-third of people who vote early do so in person. But, through Monday, 56% had cast ballots in person, according to figures from the Secretary of State’s office obtained by Signal Cleveland.

In Cuyahoga County, the board of elections had processed more than 178,816 vote by mail applications by close of business Monday.
The board said voters have returned 123,537 absentee/vote by mail ballots as of Monday night.

The deadline to request a vote by mail ballot was Oct. 29.

Time to turn in your vote

Vote by mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 4.

The U.S. Postal Service said since ballots are due on Election Day, they should be mailed one week in advance (Tuesday, Oct. 29). But if you did not get a chance to get to the post office, you still have the option to drop off your ballot at the board of elections – the deadline is 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Vote by mail ballots will not be accepted at polling locations on Election Day. A secure ballot drop box is available 24 hours a day in the rear parking lot of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 2925 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.

If you are thinking about dropping off someone else’s ballot, Secretary of State Frank LaRose recently instituted new rules for using absentee ballot drop boxes located outside county boards of elections. You can read the details here.
