Signal Cleveland is hosting a Cleveland Documenters orientation later this month. If you want to be trained and paid $18 an hour to take notes or photos or live tweet at public meetings, join us.
The Cleveland Documenters orientation begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Cleveland Public Library Rice branch, 11535 Shaker Blvd. The orientation, which is mandatory in order to be eligible for paid assignments, will run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. An additional optional training on note-taking for public meetings will follow.
What is Cleveland Documenters?
Cleveland Documenters is a community of hundreds of Greater Clevelanders. It is a civic side hustle where you can earn money while attending local public meetings. It is also a community that meets regularly at Signal Cleveland’s Euclid Avenue office to discuss issues community members care about most.
At Thursday evening’s gathering, Documenters brainstormed about meeting coverage for the rest of the year. We learned:
- Cleveland Documenters are interested in public housing and homelessness, and would like to cover new entities like suburban city councils.
- Documenters’ favorite meetings that we currently cover include Cleveland Metroparks and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District school board.
- One discussion, hosted by Cleveland Documenter Marquesa Stephens, focused on ways to engage with youth. We discussed ways we can work as a community to provide more information about summer activities for middle-school children.
If you would like to be part of the Cleveland Documenters community, you’re invited to join us on April 20. You can create a Documenters account anytime here and register for all of workshops and gatherings.
