Four-legged friends get a ‘leg up’ thanks to Cleveland veterinary facility

Veterinary rehabilitation is widely regarded as one of the fastest growing areas in veterinary medicine, according to Companion Animal Health. This is largely due to a client-driven demand.

For married couple Dr. Laura Surovi and Michael Sivo, there was a noticeable gap in access to rehabilitation facilities, with many pet owners traveling long distances to find the right care for their four-legged family members.

“The vision for Cleveland Veterinary Rehabilitation was born from the realization that our own neighborhood lacked a much-needed service for our pets,” said Surovi, co-owner of Cleveland Veterinary Rehabilitation and veterinarian. “After caring for a severely disabled dog, we quickly identified that we could provide tremendous aid to the pets in our community, as well as to the people who care for them.”

Surovi and Sivo set out to create a stand-alone, full-service rehabilitation facility that is comfortable and functional for both the pet and the pet owner. It includes a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and other specialized equipment.

“The demand for our services has exceeded our original expectations,” added Sivo, co-owner of Cleveland Veterinary Rehabilitation and business development manager.

Since opening its doors in 2022, Surovi and Sivo see customers travel from out of state and as far as Canada to receive treatments.

Cleveland Veterinary Rehabilitation works as a team, comprised of the pet, pet owner and the pet’s primary care veterinarian working together to achieve the highest level of function, independence and quality of life for their patients.

“No pet should be denied options which enhance their recovery from trauma or surgery, aid in injury prevention and maximize the wellbeing of a pet living with chronic and debilitating conditions,” said Sivo.

It’s been a journey transitioning from a small mobile rehabilitation business to a stand-alone 6,000 square-foot facility.
