There’s less than two weeks left to vote early in the six Cuyahoga County cities holding primary elections on Sept. 9. Those cities are Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland, Garfield Heights, Lakewood and Maple Heights. The primary election determines which candidates will compete in the general election in November.

In Cleveland, only the wards with more than two candidates will vote. Those wards are 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12. You can read many of the candidates’ answers to Signal Cleveland’s questions here.

In Cleveland Heights, voters are asked to choose between five candidates for mayor and whether the current mayor, Kahlil Seren, should be recalled (removed from office immediately).

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections’ web site has sample ballots for all six cities.

What kind of ID do I need to bring to vote?

You will need to bring one of the following forms of identification:

• Ohio driver’s license

• State of Ohio ID card

• Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV

• U.S. passport or passport card

• U.S. military ID card

• Ohio National Guard ID card

• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID card

Voting by mail? Here’s what you need to know?

To vote by mail, follow these instructions. (It’s a two-step process, and if you haven’t already submitted an application for a mail ballot, you may want to vote in person and avoid missing the deadline. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Sept. 8.)

If you’re planning to vote in person on election day, Sept. 9, you can use your address to check your polling place on this page. This is especially important in Cleveland, where the ward boundaries have changed. You’ll also need one of the forms of ID listed above.

If you’re not registered to vote, it’s too late to cast a ballot in the primary elections, but you can take care of it now to be ready for November. You can register online, in person at the BOE or by mail (using this form). You can also use these methods to update your registration if you’ve moved.

Important stories are hiding everywhere, and my favorite part of journalism has always been the collaboration, working with colleagues to find the patterns in the information we’re constantly gathering. I don’t care whose name appears in the byline; the work is its own reward. As Batman said to Commissioner Gordon in “The Dark Knight,” “I’m whatever Gotham needs me to be.”
