Cleveland City Hall will be closed Monday after an unspecified “cyber incident,” the mayor’s office said in a news release Sunday night.
The release did not say more about the cause or type of incident. City IT staff have shut down the affected computer systems before trying to restore them.
“These systems will remain offline until we have a better understanding of the situation,” the statement says. “We take cyberthreats extremely seriously and are working expeditiously to rectify the situation as soon as possible.”
The city is also closing its satellite offices in the Erieview complex on East Ninth Street, which houses Department of Public Health and some Building and Housing Department staff.
According to City Hall’s news release, emergency services, the airports and city utilities are still operable. After-hours operators from the United Way will handle the city’s daytime 3-1-1 calls.
“All internal systems and software platforms will be shut down until further notice,” the news release says. “City Hall and Erieview will be closed on Monday, June 10 except for essential staff and normal business will not be conducted with the public.”
Mayor Justin Bibb’s office told employees Sunday night that they would still have access to their cloud-based Office 365 systems.
