Cleveland City Council Member Kevin Conwell was uninjured in a reported shooting in University Circle on Friday morning.
Police have made few details available about the incident. Asked about a shooting involving Conwell, police said that officers responded to a call for shots fired near Magnolia Drive and East 108th Street around 10:10 a.m. Friday.
“According to the victims, an unknown person(s) fire[d] shots while they were walking in the area,” police wrote in an email Friday afternoon, which did not identify Conwell. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported. At this time, there are no identified suspects or associated vehicles.”
Reached by phone around midday Friday, Conwell told Signal Cleveland that he was talking with a police captain and had been advised not to comment while the case was ongoing.
“I didn’t get hit, man,” he said. “It’s a scary thing, but I’m doing OK.”
The location is near the Louis Stokes Cleveland U.S Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A spokesperson for City Council said the matter was under investigation. Police encouraged anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
