The Power Rankings from Signal Cleveland is a weekly roundup of the people, places and things wielding their power, for better or worse, in Greater Cleveland. Last week cooling centers and ransomware made the list. This week Cleveland students top the list.

1. The Executive Grille on the Bus

The hard-working culinary arts students and instructors behind The Executive Grille at East Tech took their smash (burger) show on the road in a specially outfitted yellow food bus. See for yourself:

2. Cavs

Follow the new leader: They had the 20th pick in the NBA draft, but the team snagged their first pick for head coach. Ex-Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson signed a five-year deal to lead the Wine and Gold. Freshly-drafted Jaylon Tayor joins the team from Cal, adding to the West Coast vibe.

3. Out-of-town landlords

If you live in Cleveland, you’ve probably heard about problems with landlords who live out of town or even out of state. But what about landlords who live 6,000 miles away?

4. Magic bubblers

And just like that: The Cleveland Metroparks found a way to take the smell out of some of their outdoor bathrooms — with a “magic” air compressor. “Stinky bathrooms” has been high on the list of customer complaints. For their next trick, maybe the park system can install self-cleaning grills.

Community Journalism Director (she/her)
I look for innovative ways to center news on community interests so more Clevelanders can have positive, direct interactions with journalists. I seek out different opinions, support emerging journalists, and teach community writing and story development so people can tell their own stories, build their own power and make the change they want to see.
