Signal Cleveland spent months using public records to piece together one network of businesses that bought and sold rental homes in Cleveland. The paper trail stretched from Cleveland all the way to Sweden. But we didn’t just sift through paperwork – we talked to people sold the houses as investment properties, who scouted the homes to buy and sell, who purchased properties in a city thousands of miles from their own homes and Clevelanders who lived in and next to homes with far away landlords.
Now, you can read all of the stories – and see what we learned about the houses and the investments. One thing we learned is that there’s more to explore — more networks of investors, more to learn about what a city made up of of mostly renters might need to do to manage the influx of interest in owning rentals in Cleveland.
