A 2021 crackdown on drug smuggling has delayed or prevented basic legal documents from reaching people inside Ohio’s 28 state prisons. 

Sheriff’s Deputy Isen Vajusi, on the left in the back row, shot a teenager in the leg in October 2024 and fired four rounds at another teenager on May 16. He was not injured. The Mentor Police Department deemed Vajusi unfit to be an officer in 2021.

Linda Acoff was 17 weeks pregnant and pleading for help, but an investigation found Cuyahoga County Jail staff delayed proper medical care. An autopsy of her fetus showed she lost her pregnancy due to a common infection that went untreated.
