Greater Cleveland residents got a jump start on the Halloween season this year when September 13th landed on a Friday. A common superstition is that it is unlucky when the 13th day of the month lands on a Friday — A.K.A Friday the 13th.
For horrorphiles and Halloween lovers, the phenomenon taking place in September was as good an excuse as any to start looking for haunted houses and other spooky events.
Here are some popular Halloween attractions in Greater Cleveland that are now open, or coming soon, for the 2024 season.
Scary: Bloodview Haunted House
1010 Towpath Rd., Broadview Heights
The appropriately named Bloodview Haunted House located in Broadview Heights has invited Northeast Ohioans to its unassuming building since 1985 for spooks and scares. For almost four decades, the haunted house has been operated by a local Lions Club chapter, and a portion of ticket sales always go to local and national charities.
While themes may change weekend to weekend, hours remain: Fridays and Saturdays: 8 p.m.-12 a.m.; and starting Oct. 6, Sundays, 8 p.m.-10 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $20-40.

Family-friendly option: Hudson Haunted House
2250 Barlow Rd., Hudson
Even older than Bloodview Haunted House, the Hudson Haunted House has been operated by the Hudson Jaycees since 1972. The website boasts that it is “Ohio’s longest-running haunted attraction.”
In addition to the traditional haunt, which opens on Friday, Sept. 27, there will be kids’ matinee hours on two Sundays in October. There are also concessions on site.
Hours vary between Sept. 27 and Nov. 2 and the full calendar can be found below or on the website. Tickets start at $10 for children and group and family discounts are available.
Scary: Nightmare Cleveland
7460 Brookpark Rd., Cleveland

A new attraction in Northeast Ohio’s horror scene is Nightmare Cleveland, a haunted house from the folks who started a haunted attraction in an abandoned Medina County slaughterhouse.
The Cleveland haunted house, which features elaborate sets, costumes and makeup, is open through Nov. 2 and tickets go up in price closer to Halloween. Find the full schedule here.
Tickets start at $24.99.
Family-friendly option: Spooky Ranch
19066 East River Rd., Columbia Station
A horror-filled compound, Spooky Ranch in Columbia Station is home to five haunted attractions, including a haunted house, hayride, barn, saloon and 3-D zombie experience.
Spooky Ranch opens on Friday, Sept. 27 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 3.
For families and fall-lovers, the property is also home to Old West Pumpkin Fest, a weekly fall festival.
Tickets to Spooky Ranch start at $18 for kids and $25 for adults.
